Cricket is an exciting sport that combines skill, concentration, teamwork and strategy. Whether your child is completely new to the game or has already played informally, understanding the basic rules, equipment and techniques will help them begin with confidence.

At Peterborough Elite Cricket Academy, we introduce young players to cricket in a structured, supportive and enjoyable environment. Every child is encouraged to learn at their own pace while developing strong foundations in batting, bowling, fielding and teamwork.

Beginners usually start with either a wooden or composite paddle—lightweight and easy to control. The ball is made of plastic with holes, different for indoor and outdoor play. Proper court-friendly shoes (not running shoes) will give you lateral support and help prevent slipping. You don’t need expensive gear to start—just something comfortable and durable.

Cricket is a game of patience, skill and teamwork. Strong foundations help young players develop confidence and enjoy every stage of their cricket journey.

Pickleball games are typically played to 11 points, and you must win by 2. Only the serving team can score. The server calls the score in three numbers: server score–receiver score–server number. The “two-bounce rule” requires that the ball bounce once on each side before volleying begins. These simple rules help keep the game controlled, fair, and easy to follow—especially for beginners.
